How I feel today

I haven't done much painting lately. I've been busy with my philosophy classes, and making bags. I am trying to start a business, Carolo Bags - check them out at carolobags.com.

Anyway, I was moved to do this quickly drawn self-portrait, which is more an emotional image than a realistic one.

Image Quality

Sometimes I think it is more difficult to take a good photo of a painting then it is to paint it. Please forgive the sketchy quality of some of these images. Take off your glasses, stand back, and use your imagination!

Thanks, Carol

Some Landscapes

These were done in a variety of California locations, from the American River to Napa valley. They were mostly done plein air, but two of trees by roadsides were done from photos. The yellow trees are in the middle of Fair Oaks Blvd in Sacramento, and the last image is a road in Malta (south of Sicily).

A work in process

Here is the painting that I am currently working on. It is based on a photograph of two shrimp boats laying boom in the Gulf of Mexico to help with the oil clean-up. I think it's kind of interesting to track the progress of a painting, so I thought I'd share it with you in case you are interested, too. I often think, when completing a painting session, that I haven't really made any progress, so keeping a record of the before and after of each session keeps me from getting discouraged.

Anyway, my daughter had a great idea of what I can do with this painting when it is done: I am going to contact the original photographer and ask permission to auction off the painting, donating the proceeds to a charity that is helping clean up the Gulf. Hopefully he will say yes. If anyone has any ideas as to how to go about auctioning a painting, please let me know. Thanks.

Some Still Lifes

Here are some more paintings. I did these a while ago, but I still like them. I hope you like them, too. The shirt, the freesia, and the boots (my mother's boots) were done as still lifes, and the oranges were done from a photo of an orange tree in my back yard.

Images of my family

Here is the most recent painting I have completed.

I call it"Father and Son."

It is actually my father and my brother (a long time ago).
